Mirrors Are Portals
Mirrors Are Portals — an exploration from JitterSnap's Hidden Constructs collection.
The Signal
You were told a mirror shows the truth, but it only shows what's allowed.. What if the mirror isn't a reflection?.
Ancient Echoes
What if it's a checkpoint?.. A gate?.. A lens?.. A test?.. Mirror mirror on the wall?.. But who told you that's you on the other side?.. In ancient myth, mirrors weren't furniture... They were technology, used for scrying, dream work, communication... Even science has questions, why do animals react to mirrors with fear?.. Why do mirrored rooms disorient the brain?.. Why does your own gaze sometimes feel watched?.. We assume the mirror shows us reality, but it only shows us the parts that can be seen... What about your aura, your memories, your echoes?.
The Unfolding
But here's the deeper truth... When you stare into the mirror, something stares back, and not just symbolically... The act of observing yourself creates a feedback loop... In the loop, it isn't empty, it's listening... Mirrors are thin spaces between layers, between selves... Across cultures, mirrors were covered when someone died... Why?.. Because the spirit might try to escape through the glass... Even now, people report seeing versions of themselves doing things they didn't do... A smile, a blink, a breath delayed... Maybe that's your echo... Maybe that's your shadow... Maybe it's a version of you, that woke up first..
The Question
The next time you look in a mirror, watch who blinks first.
