The book of Revelation told of fire raining from the heavens, a mountain burning, cast into the sea. The Mahabharata spoke of a weapon so fierce the corpses were unrecognizable. And the Mayan priests warned the gods of fire would return when the earth was out of balance. We used to call these visions myth. Now we call them policy. The second trumpet of revelation, the brahmastra in Hindu scripture. Strategic arsenals in every continent. Each one capable of ending the world. The gods gave fire, but men gave it purpose. And now the sky holds our own judgment. In 1983, Stannislav Petrov saved the world. He ignored what looked like a United States missile strike. It was a false alarm. But if he had obeyed protocol, the war would have begun. One decision, one human instinct. But next time, it may not be a false alarm. And it may not be a human making the call. If the end comes in fire, we will only hear silence. Cities will vanish in seconds. Satellites will fail. Food will rot in cold darkness. Nuclear winter, global famine, mass extinction.
