The City Beneath the Sphinx
The City Beneath the Sphinx — an exploration from JitterSnap's Mystery Atlas collection.
The Signal
Beneath the sands of Giza between myth and stone lies something Egypt won't talk about.. A structure so old it may predate the Sphinx itself..
Ancient Echoes
For decades, independent researchers claimed there was something hidden beneath the Sphinx's paws... In 1993, seismic imaging confirmed it, a hollow space, a perfectly rectangular chamber, they called it the Hall of Records... A rumored archive of ancient knowledge left behind by a lost civilization, or something not entirely human... Then without warning the excavation was shut down... Foreign researchers were expelled, cameras removed..
The Unfolding
The official explanation, there is nothing under the Sphinx... But whistle-blowers told another story, a staircase leading deeper than expected... A locked door with no handles, walls that responded to touch... They spoke of corridors stretching far beneath Giza, always with air that hadn't moved in 10,000 years, and carvings not made with tools, but light... Then came the cover up, footage vanished, researchers silenced, funding pulled, but data leaked, coordinates, diagrams... One message repeated again and again, the archive must remain buried..
The Question
So what lies beneath the Sphinx, a library of forbidden knowledge, the remnants of a forgotten race, or a machine, still dreaming in the dark?
