The Well That Sees

The Well That Sees — an exploration from JitterSnap's Mystery Atlas collection.

The Signal

In the mountains of Central Turkey, there's a shaft cut deep into stone, locals call it the eye.. They say it watches and remembers..

Ancient Echoes

It's older than any structure in the region, no known builders, no nearby settlement, just a perfect cylindrical pit, 20 meters deep, lined with obsidian black stone that seems to absorb light... When archaeologists tried to map it, their gear failed... Laser scanners misread scanners returned conflicting results and then came the sounds... A researcher claimed the well responded to his thoughts... That as he stared into it, it stared back..

The Unfolding

And a villager say it's not a well, but a sentient sensor, a relic from before the flood, something that was never meant to be buried... Multiple attempts to close the shaft have failed, each time the covering cracks, as if the structure rejects being sealed... Strangers still, people who spend too long near the well report changes, they begin to dream of symbols they've never seen, speak in patterns, and in one case, stop speaking entirely... Is it a machine, a memory vault or warning or something far older, some still watching through the veil?.

The Question

And if it's been watching this long, what is it waiting for?
