This Thought Wasn't Mine

This Thought Wasn't Mine — an exploration from JitterSnap's Reality Glitches collection.

The Signal

You're thinking, and then, you're not.. The thought arrives, fully formed, not your voice, not your pattern, just there..

The Discovery

Have you ever had a thought that didn't feel like yours?.. Let's start with thought insertion... Described by some as a mental anomaly, a feeling that an idea has been placed in the mind... No origin, no build-up, just… there... Psychology has a label for this, but it doesn't explain why people across cultures report the same sensation... It wasn't my thought..

The Unfolding

Now, let's talk dream-bleed... You wake up remembering something impossible, but emotionally real... An argument, a decision... A memory from a life that doesn't exist here... Some believe these are timeline fragments, echoes from versions of you and other realities crossing wires others believe it's deeper, that the simulation uses thoughts to control behavior that impulses are injected, like software updates, subtle, untraceable, effective... You think you're thinking, but you're processing, and sometimes you're not even you... If consciousness is networked, if thoughts are not private, then what happens when the signal gets hijacked?.

The Question

You don't remember thinking this, but here we are.
