What the Evidence Said
The object's track covered a smaller angle than the half-degree width of the Sun and Moon. That was shorter than expected for a meteor, but the stranger clue was its light.
The streak did not remain bright after leaving the solar disc. A meteor glows because its passage through the atmosphere heats the surrounding gas; it does not need the Sun behind it to remain visible. An object reflecting sunlight does.
The suspect crossed the Sun, then lost the light it needed to exist.
The Context
The timing created a powerful false lead. Genuine Perseids were active, and their apparent paths point back toward a radiant in the constellation Perseus. A bright streak during the shower therefore arrived with a ready-made cosmic explanation.
Investigators cross-referenced the camera's coordinates, the time and the object's position with flight data. The match identified the culprit as an aircraft contrail reflecting sunlight.
Why It Fooled the Eye
The video compressed several rare-looking ingredients into one frame: an eclipse, a meteor-shower peak and a luminous line moving across the Sun. Human pattern recognition did the rest, binding them into a single extraordinary event.
This mystery has an answer, but that is exactly why it belongs in the signal. The clip shows how timing can make an ordinary trail look cosmically inevitable — and how a few physical checks can pull the events apart.
